Since it was established in 1997, about 900 grants were awarded out of total application of about 6,500 with total amount of the grants of about 535 m Japanese Yen.
The KWEF, in collaboration with Asian institute of Technology (AIT), has launched a new research grant program (KWEF-AIT Research Grant, KARG) for young researchers mainly in emerging countries in South East Asia.
Total grant amount in 2017 is about five million Japanese yen in total for ca. 18 projects (max 300,000 Japanese yen each).
 
KARG 2017
KARG aims to promote human resource development through researches to solve water and/or environmental problems in South East Asia.
The focal research area in 2017 is water-related Environmental Science and Technology.
Target countries in 2017
Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam
 
2017 Research Period
From September 1st, 2017 – August 31st, 2018
 
Obligations of the Recipients of research grants
(1) Submission of a report
a ) Research Report
Recipients of research grants must submit a summary report in English on the results of their research to by November, 2018.
It must include the following descriptions.
1) Description on research activities undertaken
2) Key results obtained
3) Research output/outcome e.g. conference/journal paper publications, or other implication of research findings
4) Other relevant information (if any)
 This research report shall be about 2-3 pages with other detailed description (if any) provided as annex.
b ) Financial Report
The researcher must submit an expense report, by November, 2018.
The report (one page) needs to be submitted together with the research report showing how the research grant has been utilized.
The research and financial report shall be submitted to the national selection committee along with cc to KARG secretariat after which they will be forwarded to KWEF-Japan.
